Algiers

Algiers is a city that surprises because it blends very different atmospheres: on one side you have the Kasbah, an intricate labyrinth of narrow white alleyways, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which tells the city’s Arab and Ottoman history; on the other side there are the grand French-style colonial boulevards, with elegant buildings and cafés overlooking the sea.

The city lies on a hillside that slopes down to the Mediterranean, so there is no shortage of views. It is an interesting stop for those seeking culture, architecture and authentic North African life, less touristy than other capitals. It is worth stopping for a couple of days, enjoying the local cuisine and visiting museums and markets, before continuing the journey.

Points of interest:

  • Visit of the BASTION 23 known as IL PALAZZO DEL RAìS, which brings together all the architecture of the Ottoman period.
  • guided visit in the basilica of Nostra Signora d’Africa built in 1855, it was the first church to have welcomed a Black nun.
